Itinerary

Day 1 Friday 17th May - Outward Travel

Coach

We will leave school in the evening and drive to Dover.

No meals included on day 1.

Day 2 Saturday 18th May - Outward Travel, Chateau de Versailles

VERSAILLES, FRANCE

In the early morning, we will take the ferry to Calais. We will then drive to Paris, stopping en route for breakfast (not included). We will drive to Versailles and spend the afternoon exploring the world famous Chateau (extra, €18 per person, payable locally), accompanied by a local guide. In addition to viewing the spectacular Gardens, our visit includes the ornate State Apartments, highlighted by the magnificent Hall of Mirrors. After our afternoon in Versailles, we will drive to Paris. On arrival in Paris, we will drive to our accommodation and have our evening meal.

Evening meal included on Day 2.

Day 3 Sunday 19th May– Full Day at Parc Asterix

After breakfast we will leave the hotel for Parc Asterix. We will spend the full day in the park enjoying the rides and other attractions. After our day in the park, we will return to our accommodation and have our evening meal.

Day 4 Monday 20th May - Paris Sightseeing and Travel to Ypres

Montmartre

Breakfast will be taken and we will leave our accommodation. We will enjoy a one hour cruise on the River Seine departing from the foot of the Eiffel Tower with Bateaux Parisiens (included). We will then visit the Arc de Triomphe. Energetic members of the party could take the 284 steps to the top (approx 70p per person – Rhapsody to reserve if required) to admire the wonderful views of Paris. We will ascend to Montmartre, an area of Paris made famous in the late 19th century as an artists’ haunt. We will spend time in the Place du Tertre, a square known for its local artwork, and visit the Sacre Coeur, a huge white church that dominates the Parisian skyline. Time permitting, we will explore the Champs Élysées, which offers a beautiful look at Parisian life and architecture. We will then drive to Ypres. On arrival in Ypres, we will attend the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate which honours those who lost their lives in the First World War. We will drive to our accommodation and have our evening meal.

Day 5 Tuesday 21st May - Tyne Cot Cemetery, Langemark Cemetery, Flanders Field Museum and Homeward Journey

Breakfast will be taken and we will leave our accommodation. In the morning, we will visit the Flanders Field Museum which provides an interesting and comprehensive background guide to the causes and actions of the Great War. Before departing Ypres, we will visit the Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest British and Commonwealth war cemetery in the world, and the Langemark Cemetery, one of only four First World War German cemeteries in the Flanders region. We will then drive to Calais and take the return ferry to Dover. We will then continue our journey back to school.
